The One Thing I Will Never Fly Without

April 30, 2019 //  by Kim//  Leave a Comment

I’ll be honest. Sitting in an airplane seat for hours on end is not my favorite way to spend a day. But the destination is always worth it, so I do it anyway!

I’ve collected some travel accessories that really make traveling more comfortable for me. My Trtl pillow and my noise-cancelling headphones are a lifesaver if I want to get some rest.

On short flights, or when I don’t plan on trying to sleep, I will often leave one or both of those behind. But there is one thing that I will never fly without, even if my flight is only one hour long. And it is the smallest and most inexpensive of them all.

It’s my foot hammock!

Such a simple thing, but it’s oh so wonderful!

It works best if there is nothing under the seat in front of you, or at least just a small bag that can be pushed to the side so there is room for your feet.

With my foot hammock, I can lean back, put my feet up, and truly relax.

I can adjust my leg positions to avoid typical aches and pains that come with sitting for long periods of time. I can stretch my legs out without straining my back. I can really get comfortable.

With my feet up in their little hammock, I was able to enjoy our 14-hour flight to China without restless legs and an achy back.

My kids also love it because it gives them a place to rest their feet.

I’m always surprised that I don’t see more people using them when I fly. It’s the one thing that I recommend to everyone I know who is planning to get on an airplane, and it will always be in my carry-on bag when I board any flight.

Someday I want to fly first class and dream away in a lie-flat seat on a long flight, but that probably won’t happen anytime soon. In the meantime, I’ll put my feet up with my foot hammock!

What helps you get comfortable on flights? What else do you never leave at home when you travel? Let me know in the comments!

About Kim

I am a wife and mom of three kids. I am also a traveler and a writer. Our family has been traveling together since my husband and I were newlyweds. On our first trip to Hawaii when our oldest daughter was 6 months old we tried to soak it all in because we thought it would be a once-in-a-lifetime experience. But with some learning, ingenuity, and flexibility we have made family travel part of our lifestyle.
