6 Books To Read This Summer When You Can’t Travel

These books will help you to understand the world a little better and maybe even spark your desire to see more of it for yourself.

June 18, 2020 //  by Kim//  Leave a Comment

We are venturing out just a little this summer, traveling to different states to see family, but we aren’t planning anything else right now because of all the uncertainty around the COVID-19 pandemic.

I know many of you are also reducing your travel. If you have some lazy summer days ahead, why not at least experience a piece of the world through a book?

I love reading books that either help me to understand a new part of the world or make me want to hop on a plane and experience a new place for myself. Each of these books did one or both of those for me.

These are all true accounts. I hope they inspire you, too!

Malawi: The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind

Nepal: Little Princes

Pakistan: I am Malala

Afghanistan: The Dressmaker of Khair Khana

Israel: A Country Between

Sudan: A Long Walk to Water

And here’s a bonus fiction book just for fun. If you want something a little lighter and want to feel like you’ve just been to Italy for a few days, try this one!

Italy: Love and Gelato

Happy Reading!

I would love to hear about books you love that make you feel like you’ve seen a new place without leaving home. Please share your favorites in the comments below!

About Kim

I am a wife and mom of three kids. I am also a traveler and a writer. Our family has been traveling together since my husband and I were newlyweds. On our first trip to Hawaii when our oldest daughter was 6 months old we tried to soak it all in because we thought it would be a once-in-a-lifetime experience. But with some learning, ingenuity, and flexibility we have made family travel part of our lifestyle.
