Hyatt Regency Scottsdale: Desert Retreat for Families

April 29, 2021 //  by Kim//  Leave a Comment

We love finding a hotel that is a destination in itself, and this resort fits the bill. Our family of five was very happy to chill out at the resort for a couple nights before continuing on to our next stop on our AZ/UT Road trip.

Free Bike Rentals

One of our favorite parts of the Hyatt Regency was the free bike rentals. The bike path started out next to the road but after a mile or so we connected with some really nice trails that went on for miles. We especially enjoyed using the bikes early in the morning or in the evening before sunset when the air was cool and the colors were muted and serene.

Pool Area

The pool at the hotel is huge. It’s actually ten smaller pools, fit together to make a huge area for swimming and relaxing in the sun. The unique layout provides tons of pool-side space for lawn chairs, but be aware that they fill up quickly.

There is a fun sandy area that is great for younger kids, as well as an adults-only pool and a hot tub. All of the nooks and crannies make the pool feel less crowded even when there are tons of people around. The waterslide is long and fast!

Early in the morning or late at night were our favorite times when we had the pool almost to ourselves.

Grounds and Gathering Areas

The grounds of the hotel are beautiful and adorned with a variety of cacti, palm trees, and flowers. My husband and daughter enjoyed an evening just wandering through the landscaping and taking pictures.

There were a lot of gathering spaces that made it easy to find a spot to be together as a family, including a firepit overlooking the lake and lawn games.

We loved our time at the Hyatt Regency Scottsdale Resort and Spa at Gainey Ranch. It was the perfect place to start our epic one-way road trip from Phoenix, AZ to SLC, UT.

If you want another awesome hotel that is worth a trip to Orlando by itself, no theme parks required, check out another of our favorite stays at The Hyatt Regency Grand Cypress.

About Kim

I am a wife and mom of three kids. I am also a traveler and a writer. Our family has been traveling together since my husband and I were newlyweds. On our first trip to Hawaii when our oldest daughter was 6 months old we tried to soak it all in because we thought it would be a once-in-a-lifetime experience. But with some learning, ingenuity, and flexibility we have made family travel part of our lifestyle.
